ODO Carandang Admits AMLC Documents Against Pres. Duterte Came from Reporters

The controversial "AMLC Documents" presented as evidence against Pres. Rody Duterte came from reporters as Overall Deputy Ombudsman (ODO) Melchor Carandang admitted on Monday that he was just reading through supposed "AMLC Documents" shown to him by the media in an ambush interview.

During the said interview, ODO Carandang was quoted as saying "AMLC" papers seemed to jibe with the allegations of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV in his 2016 complaint against former Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte.

The explanations of Carandang about the sources of the AMLC documents were revealed to the media after AMLC denied the allegations the documents were coming from them as noted earlier by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Carandang's explanation also came out three days after the Office of the Ombudsman stands by the documents it had allegedly obtained from AMLC despite the agency's denials of the said evidences.

Part of the statement of the Office of the Ombudsman says "Carandang states that he was reading through the documents shown to him during the ambush interview, in response to media's inquiry on the status of the complaint after more than a year since its filing, and in stating that a request was made to AMLC as part of the required investigation process."

The Office of the Ombudsman headed by Aquino-appointee Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales observed confidentiality on their investigation on the complaint against then Mayor Rody Duterte amidst threats by the President against the Ombudsman who was accused of being partial on their investigations particularly against the case involving officials of the Liberal Party.

Pres. Duterte even stated during the past few days that he would create a commission to investigate alleged corruption at the Office of the Ombudsman, as what former Pres. Marcos did during his term, creating a commission to investigate the death of Ninoy Aquino.
